To be successful in business you need to create systems. Why are systems so important? Because systems help you move from being people-dependent to system dependent. The goal is to make your business so you do not have to have special people run your business, because special people are expensive and difficult to find.
This is no different in a referral marketing system. If you want your referral marketing system to be successful you must understand what goes into a referral marketing system and the important facts in a referral marketing system.
Step #1: You need to document all the components of your referral marketing system. Most people only have a system in their head on how to get referrals, but if the referral marketing system is not documented, then it is truly not a system. This should go in your operations manual for your business.
Step #2: The referral marketing system needs to have a way for someone to get answers to questions. For example, if you do not have a way for people to get answers to questions, then it is likely that the referral marketing system will break down. As time goes on you need to put the answers into the system, but if people don’t know where to go for help, then your referral marketing system will fail.
Step #3: A referral marketing system needs to have deadlines, and checks and balances in it. If there is no check to make sure that the referral marketing system is working, then many times the referral marketing system wont’ be completed. What do I mean? Well, if you have an employee that is supposed to mail out birthday cards, then you need to have another employee that checks to see if this has been done. This needs to go on various checklists through your business. A simple checklist can make the difference between your referral marketing system working, and your referral marketing system failing.
Step #4: The referral marketing system needs to be backed up and stored online and offline. What happens if you have an office fire? Does your whole referral system get lost. This is why I recommend that you both have a print version of your referral system, and you also have a system that is online and that is backed up off line.
Step #5: You actually need to test and run the referral marketing system. If there are problems running the system you need to quickly diagnose the problems and make sure that these problems are fixed quickly and efficiently. If you don’t fix these problems, you will cost yourself a lot of time and money.
If you implement these referral marketing system steps, your referral marketing system should work extremely well helping you to get more referrals in your business.
